SI 2 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "SI 2" , 前谷, is represented by "Qian Gu" in pinyin and "Front Valley" in english and may be found:

When a loose fist is made, at the ulnar end of the crease, distal to the 5th metacarpophalangeal joint at the junction of the red & white skin.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

Local point for pain, swelling, numbness of the fingers. As the water point it will remove heat - febrile disease, hot palms, darker urine.
Clear heat from the opposite end of the channel, tinnitus, headache, sore throat, neck, ear and/or eye pain and/or swelling.

Si 2 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. SI2, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Liver Fire

SI 2 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Ear Problems, Eye Problems, Hand - Fingers Pain, Headache, Sore Throat, Sweaty Palms (Hyperhidrosis) and/or Tinnitus

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Baxie (Issues of the hand - pain, spasm, numbness. Menti…) and TH 2 (Similar to TH 3 which is used more clinically) are nearby.
