SP 2 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "SP 2" , 大都, is represented by "Dadu" in pinyin and "Great Metropolis" in english and may be found:

On medial side of big toe, distal and inferior to the 1st metatarsaldigital joint in a depression at the juncture of the red and white skin.

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Generally used to clear damp-heat - gout, painful obstructions.
  • Local point for issues with the big toe.
  • With SP 3 tonify SP organ - abdominal distention, diarrhea and/or heart pain.

Sp 2 has the following theoretical associations which serve as important guideposts in designing an effective treatment protocol:

A single acupuncture point is not commonly thought of as an empirical way to influence a TCM diagnostic pattern. SP2, however, is a strong candidate to be incorporated into an acupuncture protocol for patients who exhibit: Spleen and Stomach Damp Heat

SP 2 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Abdominal Pain, Diarrhea and/or Gout

While not necessarily valid clinically, EX Bafeng (Foot issues - pain, swelling, numbness. Mentioned…) and LV 2 ( Generally, clears LV Fire - extreme irritabil…) are nearby.
