EX Huatuojiaji at L4 Acupuncture Point Applications and Theory

The acupuncture point "EX Huatuojiaji at L4" , 華佗夾脊, is represented by "Huatuojiaji" in pinyin and "Sides of Spine at L4" in english and may be found:

.5 cun lateral to the lower border of the spinous processes of L4

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • L4 innervates the large intestine and is used for a range of colon issues, distention, diarrrhea, constipation, crohn's, IBS and more.  Also useful for low back and/or sciatic pain, weakness in the lower extremities, etc.  Collections of damp/heat in the lower warmer are also influenced here - such issues as leukorrhea, spermatorrhea, hemorrhoids and others.
  • Used  extensively within the Tam Healing System and Tong Ren Therapy. May be needled and used with tuina and/or tonren therapy.

EX Huatuojiaji at L4 may potentially be used, in coordination with a well designed acupuncture treatment protocol, to influence the following conditions: Appendicitis, Back Pain, Constipation, Crohn's Disease, Diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Leukorrhea, Sciatica and/or Spermatorrhea

While not necessarily valid clinically, GV 3 ( Warming point for cold or cold damp in the lo…) and UB 25 (Main point for low back pain especially when rela…) are nearby.
