Bai Ji TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "bai ji" which in english is "bletilla rhizome", is categorized within the "herbs that stop bleeding" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the liver, lung and stomach channels and exhibits bitter (ku), cool and sweet (gan) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 3-15g

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Stops bleeding from the lungs and stomach - vomiting and/or coughing of blood, nosebleed.
  • Reduces swelling and generates flesh - topically for sores, chapped skin, skin ulcers, especially for chronic, nonhealing ulcers.
