Do not use for patients with liver wind or severe yin deficiency.
Useful for many types of traumatic injuries, broken bones, sprains, fractures, etc. anywhere in the body. Also useful for fixed abdominal masses, ulcerations, sciatica, arthritis, pelvic inflammatory disease and angina among others.
In the case of traumatic injury the tongue and pulse may hold less clinical significance, for other conditions the Pulse may be wiry and the Tongue may be darker or show darkness in specific areas.
The formula is used to tonify both the spleen and heart which can be damaged from excessive overthinking, compulsions, etc. along with poor dietary habits and stressful lifestyle. General indications are anxiety, phobias, palpitations, insomnia, dream disturbed sleep, poor appetite, pallid complexion.
In women spleen and heart deficiencies may lead to prolonged periods with little flow or early periods, heavier with pale blood.
The Pulse will be thin and frail and the Tongue will be pale with a thin white coat.
This formula is generally a tonifying agent with herbs to invigorate the blood it is used for excessive menstruation, excessive spotting between periods or bleeding during pregnancy. Other uses would be uterine bleeding and restless fetus syndrome.
The Tongue is generally pale with a thin white coat and the Pulse will be thin and frail.
Hypochondriac pain, bitter taste in the mouth, irritability, easily angered, headache, dizziness, red, and possibly sore, eyes, diminished hearing and/or swollen sensation in ears/head. May have urinary symptoms such as painful, hot urination perhaps with swollen genitalia. Women may have leukorrhea with a strong odor.
The Pulse will be wiry, rapid and forceful and the Tongue will be red with a yellow tongue coating.
Cough with watery, copious sputum, breathing issues such as wheezing, asthma, shortness of breath (particularly difficulty inhaling), chest oppression. Possibly signs of kidney qi/yang deficiency such as edema, weak low back and/or legs, fatigue.
The Tongue will have a white coating that can be either greasy or slippery.
Anxiety, insomnia, irritability, night sweats, low grade fever, restless sleep, poor memory, poor focus and concentration, nocturnal emissions, dry stools.
Pulse will be thin and rapid and the Tongue will be red with little coating.
Generally used with roundworms - abdominal pain, irritability, stifled chest w/heat, vomiting after eating, cold hands and/or feet. Roundworms may be observed in vomit.
Also has a broader application in chronic diarrhea, IBS, or other digestive disorders characterized by both heat and cold. Symptoms may be chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain (often that is better w/heat).
With parasites the tongue and pulse are less critical, with chronic conditions the Tongue may be red with a white coating.
Itchy and red skin lesions, possibly with weeping, comprising such conditions as psoriasis, eczema, acne, dermatitis, etc.
The Pulse will generally be forceful, floating and rapid and the Tongue will have a yellow or white tongue coating.
Signs of Kidney Yang deficiency - cold extremities, fatigue, impotence, weak/aching low back, knees, waist, aversion to cold, infertility, loose stools, incontinence or other urinary issues (frequent, difficult to restrain), edema in the lower body.
The Pulse will be weak and the Tongue will be be pale with a thin white moist coat.
