Ding Xiang TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "ding xiang" which in english is Ding Xiang herb"clove flower bud", is categorized within the "herbs that warm the interior and expel cold" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the kidney, spleen and stomach channels and exhibits acrid and warm (wen) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 1.5-4.5g

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Warms middle warmer, directs rebellious Qi downward - cold in the stomach with vomiting, hiccups, abdominal pain, diarrhea.
  • Warms kidney yang - impotence, leukorrhea due to Kidney yang deficiency.

Ding Xiang has some precautions to be considered (see our precautions list).

Ding Xiang may potentially be used, in coordination with a well tailored formula (in most cases), to influence the following conditions: abdominal pain, diarrhea, hiccups and/or vomiting
