    Contraindication Notes:

    • Avoid during Pregnancy.
    • Avoid in yin deficiency with false cold and true heat.


Fu Zi Clinical Usages and Indications

  • Restores devastated yang - extreme cold limbs with abundant cold symptoms.
  • Assists heart yang to unblock vessels and improve circulation, tonifies kidney yang to augment fire and avoid loss of the basal yang.
  • Warms fire and assists yang - any problem associated with weak heart, spleen, and/or kidneys.
  • Disperses cold, warms the channels, alleviates pain - wind-damp-cold bi, cold blocking organs, channels, sinews, bones or blood vessels.


Fu Zi Dosage and Prep Notes

  • Dosage: 1.5-15g
  • Boil for 30-60 minutes before adding others.

  • Can be toxic to the central nervous system and the heart.

Fu Zi Appears In 5 Formulas

Fu Zi Li Zhong Wan

  • Aconite Regulate Middle Pills
    • Spleen yang deficiency resulting in coldness of the limbs and/or interior, borborygmus, and possible loose stools or diarrhea.
    • Feeling full even with small amounts of food, bloating, epigastric/abdominal pain, possible decrease in appetite.
    • Vomitting and nausea especially if it occurs shortly after eating.
  • Warm Interior Cold
  • Warm the Middle and Dispel Cold

Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan

  • Kidney Qi Pill from the Golden Cabinet
    • Lethargy, low libedo, frequent urination with possible incontinence resulting from kidney yang deficiency.
    • Sensation of cold, especially in the lower half.
  • Tonify
  • Warm and Tonify the Yang
  • Cautions
  • Pregnancy
    • Avoid during pregnancy.
    • Avoid during a cold or flu, use nothing, or yin qiao / gan mao ling instead.
    • Avoid with patients that present with yin deficiency.

Si Ni Tang Wan

  • Frigid Extremities Formula
    • Aversion to cold, very cold limbs, sensations of deep cold, fatigue, lethary resulting from kidney yang deficiency.
    • Diarrhea with undigested food, vomiting, abdominal pain.

Wu Mei Wan

  • Mume Fruit Pill
    • Generally used with roundworms - abdominal pain, irritability, stifled chest w/heat, vomiting after eating, cold hands and/or feet.  
    • Chronic diarrhea, IBS, or other digestive disorders characterized by both heat and cold.
  • Expel Parasites

You Gui Wan

  • Restore the Right Kidney Pill
    • Cold extremities, fatigue, weak/aching low back, knees, waist, aversion to cold, loose stools - due to kindney yang deficiency.
    • Impotence, infertility, low libedo, low sperm count, abnormal sperm morphology.
    • Incontinence or other urinary issues (frequent, difficult to restrain), enlarged prostate.
