Sang Bai Pi TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "sang bai pi" which in english is Sang Bai Pi herb"mulberry root bark", is categorized within the "herbs that relieve coughing and wheezing" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the lung and spleen channels and exhibits cold (han) and sweet (gan) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 6-15g

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Drains lung heat - cough, wheezing.
  • Promotes urination, reduces edema - lung heat obstructing downward movement of lung qi, preventing water from moving - no sweating, facial and floating edema, fever, thirst, difficult urination.
  • Recently for hypertension.

Sang Bai Pi may potentially be used, in coordination with a well tailored formula (in most cases), to influence the following conditions: cough, fever and/or hypertension (high blood pressure)
