Bu Fei Er Jiao Wan Clinical Usages and Indications

  • Lung yin deficiency with strong heat signs and/or bleeding - chronic dry cough, wheezing, pneumonia, bronchitis, asthma, tuberculosis, COPD.
  • Stops bleeding when it arises from lung yin deficiency - mild bloody sputum with dry cough.

Bu Fei Er Jiao Wan Cautions

    Contraindication Notes:

    • Avoid in patients with wind-cold (i.e. "common cold").
    • Avoid when there are profuse amounts of blood in the sputum.
    • Avoid, or use with caution, in patients with stomach and/or spleen deficiencies, particularly with phlegm accumulation.

E Jiao

  • Donkey-Hide Glue, Gelatin
    • Tonify blood - dizziness, sallow complexion, palpitations.
    • Stops bleeding - any type.
    • Nourish and moisten yin - irritability and insomnia after febrile disease, dry lung coughs due to yin deficiency or consumption.

Niu Bang Zi

  • Great Burdock Fruit, Arctium
    • Expels wind-heat (acrid), benefits throat - fever, cough, sore, red, swollen throat.
    • Clears heat (bitter, cold), relieves toxicity, vents rashes - red swellings, carbuncles, mumps, acute febrile rashes, early stages of measles with incomplete expression.
    • Moistens intestines (rich plant oil - slippery) - constipation due to wind-heat (cold nature of the herb).

    • Avoid in qi deficiency, diarrhea, lack of excess heat.
    • Avoid when open sores and/or carbuncles are present.
