Zong Lu Pi TCM Herb Classifications and Usages

The TCM herb "zong lu pi" which in english is "trachycarpus stipule fiber", is categorized within the "herbs that stop bleeding" functional grouping. It is thought to enter the large intestine, liver, lung and spleen channels and exhibits bitter (ku) and neutral (ping) taste/temperature properties.

Dosages and preparations will vary according to each individual and the overall approach of a formula, but generally this herb has the following dosage and/or preparation guidelines:

  • Dosage: 9-15g
  • Powder: 1-1.5g
  • Charred to increase the astringent and stabilizing properties

Of many possible clinical applications, it may be considered to influence the following issues/symptoms:

  • Binds and stops bleeding - coughing of blood, blood tinged sputum, nosebleed, blood in the stool, uterine bleeding.
