Tam Healing and Tong Ren Therapy Theory
Tam Healing System - The Cranial Nerve System - Tam Healing
The Tam Healing system and Tong Ren Therapy utilize a range of Chinese and Western scientific theories and anatomical/physiological understandings to improve the effect of acupuncture, massage, and energy healing treatments. Within this system, we use the point GV 24 and others to effect the cranial nerve system. The cranial nerve system consists of twelve pairs of nerves and have a broad range of effect. The nerves and their effects are listed below:
- Cranial Nerve I (Olfactory nerve): anosmia (loss of smell)
- Cranial Nerve II (Optic nerve): anopsia (loss of vision)
- Cranial Nerve III (Oculomotor): strabismus, dipiopia or double vision, ptosis, pupil enlargement and loss of focus
- Cranial Nerve IV (Trochlear): double vision and strabismus (head leans to injured side)
- Cranial Nerve V (Trigeminal): trigeminal neuralgia
- Cranial Nerve VI (Abducens): cannot turn eye laterally (abduct)
- Cranial Nerve VII (Facial): bell's palsy, loss of taste, inability to close eyelid
- Cranial Nerve VIII (Acoustovestibular): vertigo, nystagmus, tinnitus, hearing, balance
- Cranial Nerve IX (Glossopharyngeal): difficulty/pain in swallowing, lack of saliva, loss of feel in swallowing, loss of taste
- Cranial Nerve X (Vagus): difficult in swallowing, numbness of oral pharynx, loss of internal organ biofeedback signal, effects parasympathetic input to the heart, lungs and gastro intestinal tract to the level of the splenic flexure of the colon
- Cranial Nerve XI (Accessory): (innervates trapezius) difficulty moving the head and/or raising shoulders
- Cranial Nerve XII (Hypoglossal): difficult in speaking, swallowing, chewing, tongue degeneration
Cranial Nerves By Functional Grouping:
I, II, and VIII primarily effect sensory functions
IV, VI, XI, and XII primarily effect motor functions
III, V, VII, IX and X have mixed sensory, motor, and parasympathetic functions
